An IndiGo Airlines flight bound for Dubai made an emergency landing at Rajkot Airport in India’s Gujarat state after smoke was detected in the aircraft’s cargo compartment shortly after takeoff, Indian media reported.

The aircraft, operating as Flight 6E 1452, departed from Mumbai on Monday carrying 194 passengers to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

According to reports, a cabin crew member noticed smoke coming from the cargo hold soon after the aircraft became airborne and immediately alerted the flight crew. The pilot subsequently declared an emergency and diverted the aircraft to Rajkot Airport, where it landed safely as a precaution.

All 194 passengers and crew members were reported safe, with no injuries resulting from the incident.

Following the emergency landing, IndiGo arranged an alternative flight for the stranded passengers to continue their journey to Dubai.

The exact cause of the smoke has not yet been determined. In a statement, IndiGo said it has launched an investigation to identify the source of the smoke and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Airport emergency response teams were deployed following the aircraft’s landing, and standard safety procedures were carried out before passengers were allowed to disembark.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, operates an extensive domestic and international network, serving around 80 destinations within India and 30 international destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and other regions.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the airline has not yet announced whether the aircraft has been returned to service.
